Jose Mourinho: Hopeful of home advantage in second leg

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho feels having the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against CSKA Moscow at home could prove a key factor after Tuesday night's 1-1 draw in Russia.

The Spanish side looked poised to take a 1-0 advantage back to the Bernabeu thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo's first-half strike but Pontus Wernbloom levelled in stoppage time to ensure the tie remained finely balanced.

Mourinho said: "Their goal was frustrating, but we earned a good result I'd be happy to have in every knockout tie in which we play the return leg at home.

"Their strike made them very happy and we were frustrated by it because we played for more and had chances to score more.

"Our opponents made things very difficult for us, but they did little to score or draw the match. They played a serious and tough game. They worked very hard."

Another blow for Madrid was the early departure of Karim Benzema with an injury, but on the artificial surface and in freezing temperatures Mourinho was pleased it was not worse.

"I actually thought that if we were to sustain injuries we could have sustained up to three, but in the end only Benzema was injured," he said.

Midfielder Xabi Alonso claimed CSKA's equaliser should not have stood.

"We all saw Ronaldo was fouled before their equaliser, but we shouldn't dwell on it," he told www.realmadrid.com. "Our opponents also did a good job and [we] practically had no trouble until they scored. We are confident to win the tie in the return leg.

"We clearly expected a better result seeing how the game unfolded. The draw isn't a bad result, but it could have been better."

10manMadrid I agree with Mourinho a 1-0 win would've been good, 2-0+ would've been better but 1-1 is ok, we have done the hard work on a frozen artificial pitch now the Russians have to come to Spain and win because of the away goal ruling. If they come to score more than two I believe we can take advantages of the spaces they leave pushing forward. It's going to make it exciting whatever. With Di Maria on the mend they will be pressurised into defending, bring it on!

here has only been 3 players who made me hold my breath in dread when they picked the ball up anywhere near our penalty area...in their prime Scholes and Giggs... and always Drogba. Awesome player who on his day was the best striker in the world in my opinion.

remember him scoring a 25-yarder, either the season just gone or the one before, against Bolton at the Reebok. I've never seen a ball hit that hard before in my entire life. You could almost feel the shockwave from his foot contacting it 40 yards away in the stands. Didier Droga. You might not have loved him, but you just had to be in awe of him.

den Hazard, def. - 1) that girl in a club who makes eyes at you all night, who allows you to buy her a drink and walk her home arm in arm, who then gives you a suggestive kiss on her doorstep before declaring how tired she is and how she has to be up early the next day. 2) A cock tease.
