Mark Is Not Very Bright...
After watching the game at Stamford Bridge yesterday, and being really please with the way we went about our business, especially in the second half when Liverpool looked like the only team to score, and apart from the Cashley Cole miss, keeping Chelski to long range efforts, I thought I would tune into Match of the Day 2, to watch it again.
Admittedly the highlights showed a different complexion to the game, but I was amazed at the comments from Mark 'Not So' Bright after the game. He thought Liverpool title credentials were flawed because they never went to Stamford Bridge and played an open expansive game!
So, Mark, let's get this right. You expected Liverpool to go to Chelsea, where they were unbeaten it 86 games and playing really well, and play a lovely brand of attacking football and leave gaps all over the pitch for Chelsea to exploit.
This shows why you are a pundit (and not a good one) and not a Manager. The game plan from Benitez was superb; we nullified the threat of Chelsea but still looked dangerous on the break. It was like his European game plan. He also did well in bringing on Babel for the last half hour. His pace and power worried Chelsea.
So in his analysis, he should have given credit where it was due and not make an invalid farcical argument, just for the sake of it. He is a prize c*ck!!

....I cannot believe that this moron is employed by BBC to spin us a load of irrellevant bo**ocks on the days games on MOTD2. None more ridiculous than the Liverpool game where he criticised Liverpool for putting 11 men behind the ball. Er, Hang on Mark, did you watch the game at all?
Liverpool clearly went for the win and fully deserved it. My advice would be to actually watch the game before you feed us your lies.

Even This ManYoo Fan Was Impressed
As a United fan it pains me to say it, but you can't help but be impressed with the way Liverpool controlled the match yesterday. Again without Torres they have beaten one of the top 4 and this time made it looks easy. The one good thing to come out of it is that the Chelsea streak at Stamford Bridge has finally come to an end and given a pretty decent blueprint of how to beat them. Liverpool's back 4 were superb and the biggest compliment I could pay them is that I could have played in goal and they would still have won.
That has got to be the easiest days work Reina has had since he came to Liverpool. He literally had bugger all to do except kick the ball out and catch a couple of crosses. I have absolutely no doubt that the mailbox will be full of Scousers claiming this is definitely their year. I wouldn't go that far yet, but they have at least ensured they'll be up there this year rather than being out of it by December.
And the main reason this has happened? He is no longer making changes for changes sake. He is keeping the same side as much as possible and everyone is benefiting from it, even Kuyt!
Chelsea are still the team to beat for me and United have work to do. The table is still a little bit misleading with the tough away games United have had and another one to follow shortly at The Emirates (don't right Arsenal off either). But it looks like being a lot more interesting with all 4 looking like they'll be involved!

We Can Do It...
What a great result! Today we showed we have the team to keep a sustained challenge for this year's title. After the 1st goal we did start to sit back and let Chelsea dominate so I wasn't to confident we would see the game out. But we were the better team in the second half.
We created arguably the better chances and our defence was immense (Take a bow carragher and agger). We deserved that win. But it is still early days. we need to be consistent( Remember stoke). But i am feeling so much more confident now than at any time since Rafa has been manager.. Come on you redmen, please dont let me down. Again.

..Following earlier season goalless draws against Villa and Stoke, esteemed football writers in this here mailbox (actually more accurately it was Chelsea, Manure and Everton fans) wrote in and blabbed continuously about Liverpool's anti-football and cancer on the beautiful game blah blah crap. Mate give me a break.
Some of the one touch passing through the centre of the park from Gerrard, Riera, Xabi (why oh why Rafa would you contemplate selling such a gem of a player) Keane and Kuyt was just outstanding, and far superior to any move CSKA London could put together yesterday. The game also went a long way to proving that indeed, contrary to recent reports, Steven Gerrard is indeed is a world class player, the dipping strike on his left was outstanding, his tackling and tracking back also great. Contrast this to our friend Franky Lamps who tried to look important and take a few corners, laid on a couple of passes in the centre circle and did nothing else.
The best part of the game however, (apart from winning) was the fact that despite the kajillion dollars spent by the Londonders, they brought on a nineteen year old reserve to compensate for the crapness of Kalou and Malouda, and the very sluggish Anelka, who will be lucky to get game time once Drogba and J Cole reappear.
On a side note, fantastic to see Cashley miss that sitter, even though he probably should have got a second yellow for his foul on Babel. Karma will catch you Mr Cole, you can't be a ***t to everyone and expect there will be no repercussions.

....Beating Chelsea - great. Beating them at Stamford Bridge - even
better. Beating them by virtue of a deflected goal - absolutely
priceless.

The Bitterness Of This Mail Is Magic
Could I be one of the first to congratulate Liverpool on securing the Premier League title by the end of October.
Surely, this must be a record. To humiliate both Manyoo and Chelski so convincingly, playimg open, expansive football, without once resorting to getting an early (deflected / offside) goal and sticking 10 players behind the ball is an incredible feat.
Stevie G is now without doubt the best player in the world. His dominance in an England shirt has now been transferred to Liverpool. Rafa Benitez has proved himself a true genius, by achieving all of this without spending a penny in the transfer market, instead relying on a fantastic youth development policy, with the likes of Torres, Alonso, Kuyt, Keane etc, all coming through the ranks, in the "Liverpool Way".
Its also good to see that Liverpool, unlike Chelski and Manyoo resisted the urge to sell out to foriegn investors, and remained firmly owned and looked after by good, football people.
Yes, without doubt, Liverpool are deserving champions of England. The big question is, who will finish second?
Thats got that of my chest.

A Little Help For Pete Gill...
For this week's Winners and Losers:
winners:
Manchester United, they only managed 1 point over the weekend, but all Utd fans will be delighted that their title rivals picked up none; as well as losing their unbeaten record at home.

Chelsea's Problem Is...
I have been uneasy about the Chelsea's lack of good striker this season. Anelka cannot be expected to play a lone striker role every week as he is quite old and was always lethargic. I think Pool have really good chance of getting the title this season. They have been lucky going forwards and were supreme in the defence today. They did not need to Torres or against ManU to win.
That aside, is Alonso some miracle child? People who tackle him get red cards and he scores some very strange goals. And can someone get a translator for Carragher when he speaks.

What A Combination
Surely Spurs and 'Appy 'Arry are a match made in heaven?
Egotistically deluded, unjustifiably arrogant, self-aggrandising, crass...
What a vile, ugly union. They deserve each other.

...Now, I'm not one to usually comment on another teams business because at the end of the day I couldn't really give a flying fudge. However, those boys & girls down at Tottenham really are short sighted bunch. They have been banging on for some time now about how Martin Jol should never have been given the boot, and how a massive share of the problems at Tottenham stem from this occurance.
Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't these over-reactionary bell ends the ones who were calling for Jol's head a year ago saying he had taken the club "as far as he can" and that they needed someone to take them "to the next level"?
Don't come crying to all and sundry in the mailbox when it goes tits up, when it was your own fans who were murmering to get Jol out. You can say Levy pulled the trigger too soon, but there's no smoke without fire.

Here's What Happens Next
Hmmm. Redknapp eh?
Writing prior to kick-off v Bolton - it will get Spurs out of the relegation zone. We'll have an immediate bounce, and get ourselves mid-table/bottom half. Might even manage a good cup run. 'Arry will bring in some African muscle, particularly in midfield (Diarra seems a cert in the January window) and will also hopefully restore an English core to the team.
Unlike Ramos, Redknappy knows how to deal with the weekly hurly-burly of the Premiership. Ramos has proved he can cut it on the continent (witness several trophies, and Sevilla's dismantling of Martin Jol's Spurs in the uefa cup a couple of years ago) but just didn't seem to know how to set out a team in the Premiership (witness the weekly changes of personnel and strategy this season, to no avail).
So we'll avoid relegation, which was an obvious priority - and yet...
I'm not particularly confident that Redknapp can turn us into a regular European outfit, let alone push for Champs Lge qualification. No-one has a right to this, and Spurs' fairly illustrious history, sizeable fanbase and huge financial backing has undoubtedly exaggerated expectations amongst deluded fans, including yours truly. However, with some justification Spurs fans now realistically target European qualification - in recent years we've had three consecutive seasons in Europe, challenged the top four and won a cup - so of course our target is now European qualification.
Not so long ago we had a great platform in place to achieve this again, and challenge for greater things. The last 12 months has undone a lot of good work, and necessitated relegation avoidance as the immediate priority, but the broader aim of this club has to be European qualification. Redknapp's history of achieving survival at his former clubs makes me wonder whether he is what we need to meet our realistic target.
I realise this completely ignores the very pertinent question of who else could possibly have been a more suitable replacement for Ramos. I also realise that he has just won the FA Cup and reached Europe with a Portsmouth team which only a couple of years ago would have settled for 17th in the Prem. As such Redknapp has my backing, and he will no doubt have the full backing of the Spurs fans (who to their credit did not turn on manager or players in recent weeks, but continued to encourage) and the chairman.
Nb - credit to Levy for having the courage to swallow his pride, admit his mistake, shell out the 10 mil compensation and make a change before it's too late.
Michael Lacquiere, London
...I noticed that after taking the Spurs job, Harry Redknapp noted that the squad was still "one or two short".
How long before Spurs are down to "the bare bones?"

A Great Name To Finish With
After 10 years of a director of football and first team coach set up (it started with Pleat and Graham folks) it's now back to basics out with the tapas and in with the jellied eels. We now have a manager who should get us out of the poo that is entirely of our own making and Mr Levy I hope you get the rough ride at the AGM that you deserve. We now have a manager who when the top four dangle their jewels at Hutton, Bale, Woodgate and possibly Modric (because yesterday a formation was put together that suits him) isn't going to cry his eyes out but will get the deal done and move onto the next player.
The recent history of the club is littered with knee jerk reactions without little consideration for the medium to long term. Martin O'Neill could've signed up a few years ago but said no to a director of football set up and now we have Redknapp who will give us some cup runs, some inspired signings (Distin,De Canio) and some dodgy signings (paying 6 million for Useless Kaboul). All the Spurs haters will peddle out the dodgy transfer dealings in the press and we as Spurs fans should really get on with forgetting the champions league for a very long time if not forever and be content with our lot in life. Finally, 'Appy 'Arry. Please, please get rid of Jenas.

Something Different On Rooney
This season has seen the renaissance of Wayne Rooney as England's golden boy, the man who carries the burden of being his nation's most gifted footballer. Whilst the plaudits are no doubt deserved due to his magnificent form for club and country, that mesmerising talent was sadly lacking on Saturday in the game that meant the most to him. However what irked me was not his off-day at the office, he is after all only human, but its his constant badge-kissing whenever playing against his former team.
In an era whereby players get labelled greedy mercenaries, people like FFL have been slated before for consistently kissing the club's crest then doing a complete about turn by being difficult in contract negotiations. You want to see loyalty you look at Giggsy, Scholesy or the Neviller's negotiations, that is the way these talks should be held. So I struggle to believe that such displays of affection are really genuine.
In Rooney's case it is obvious he is trying to wind up the Everton fans, which is something that is part of the game and is really rather amusing. I just feel that Man Utd and its logo should not be dragged into this 'war' between him and the fans, there are other ways of being cheeky, like Ronaldo's pointing to the golden patch on the sleeve. Should Rooney kiss that badge every week with unadulterated love I would have no grips with it, but please don't do it to spite others.
Rooney will always have a massive attachment to Everton, no matter that he says he wants to stay at Utd for the rest of his career. This is something I'm sure every Red Devil accepts, we all hope that one day he will have this same adulation for our club that he has for them right now. But whether his happens or not its not important as long as he displays his trademark passion and commitment on the pitch, but please Rooney respect the club badge, its a real turn off for the millions of fans that adore the club when plastic badge kissing occurs.

And Finally...
I reckon this season is the perfect exhibit of the need for a winter break. Even if it isn't November yet. Seriously. I need a rest already.
Newcastle.
Spurs.
Hull?
Man City.
Pompey Vs. Milan?
England looking good? With a foreigner in charge?
Seriously, WTF????
Next someone will be telling me Liverpool are possibly genuine...
Oh sod it.
