Nice One Tony...
So Tony Adams gets another bite at the cherry. I honestly don't think anyone could deserve it more. After his chastening experience at Wycombe he knuckled down and got back into management the hard way and has developed a reputation for extensive preparation and complete commitment. If his influence is as significant as you would expect when it comes to the way Pompey defend then you've got to believe he has a good chance in the game, especially when you factor in his reputation and the leadership qualities that were evident through his entire playing career (whether it was to the title or to the pub, Adams was always the one his teammates followed).
He may come across as dour (though he's Woody the Woodpecker compared to Glen f***ing Hoddle) and awkward on the tv but I'm sure he's a totally different man when he's in his element. I certainly hope that it's a Phil Brown and Fat Sam situation, where the more experienced man is shown up by his old apprentice. After Harry walked out on Pompey again, and the Spurs board mismanaged Ramos into an untenable position it would be nice to see Spurs suffer while Adams goes forward with Pompey and, God willing, makes a good enough fist of it to be considered a future Arsenal manager on his achievements as well as his glorious playing career.

Tony Adams: Gibbering Idiot
So now we've got to regularly put up with the total random boll**ks that comes from the mind and mouth of Tony Adams. The man is a completely mental gibbering idiot. At least we won't see him 'punditting' too much now - listening to his analysis of a game is often excruciating. What must it be like for the players he coaches. This proves once again that its not what you know - its who you are that matters in the Premier League.

A Job For You Lot...
Watching Liverpool playing so well this season while having very crap full-backs got me thinking, there have been a lot of players over the years that have won medals just because there wasn't anyone good at the club playing in their position, an example being the Liverpool Champions League side (My housemate has a poster of that team on his wall, my word they were s**t). It's normally full-backs that get carried: Phil Neville, Lee Dixon to name a couple. I bet it would be difficult to find a crap goalkeeper (not a benchwarmer but first choice) that has won loads of medals. Maybe someone can compile a crap-but-won-loads-of-medals-X1?
Beats all this Liverpool are lucky - no they're actually good bollocks anyway.

ManYoo Should Have Sold Ronaldo
On the 7th August 2008 I had a letter printed in the mailbox. The article did not saying anything negative about Manchester United, it simply stated my opinions about the situation with Ronaldo.
Here is an extract:-
'United have taken a gamble because I believe his value can only decrease. This season will be disrupted from the start and the player himself can not possibly be at 100%. I can see his form suffering and Ferguson, towards the end of the season, having a pop at him in public. Don't forget, Ronaldo will be going anyway, so not only will it not bother Ferguson if he upsets him, the very psychological make-up of the man, will mean he will want to chin him on the way out.
'Keeping Ronaldo could prove to be the single biggest mistake of Ferguson's entire reign and I include the purchases of Djemba-Djemba and Taibi and the failure to sign Ronaldinho in that.'
The next day 'Dave Mack' amongst other United fans attacked me, verbally, of course.
Selected comments from Mack, or as he put it 'allow me to respond to Steven Charles's (Liverpool Fan) poison post' :-
1. When Ronaldo first takes his seat in the stands to watch United as he continues his recuperation, a huge and long chorus of 'Viva Ronaldo' will roll around Old Trafford.
2. As he acknowledges, Ronaldo has been and is a bit naive but he's also pretty authentic.
3. With the comments Ronaldo has made about Fergie being a father figure, my bet is United fans can enjoy watching Ronaldo's unique talents as long as Fergie's at the reigns and within two to three years we'll be bidding a fond farewell to them both.
4. Oh and by then we'll have won more league titles than any other English club, including of course the then manager-less scousers!
There was a good, honest letter in yesterday's mailbox from Mike, a Manchester United fan. He had his own thoughts, two and a half months on from my mine, on the Ronaldo situation.
A single extract from this article reads, 'Ronaldo, if you don't wanna be here can you just f**k off to madrid you moaning ungrateful gobs**te.'
Mike, well done for admitting the bleedin obvious. My point back then was United deserved better than how Ronaldo was treating them and they should have took the £70 million. How much less will they get next summer? Real are already saying, lying, that they do not want him, which, along with a season much less successful than last season, will significantly drive down the price. Basically, United would have got Berbatov for nothing, the difference will be that big.
Finally, there are not any Liverpool fans saying we are going to win the title. We hope we ere, we have a chance, but, like United back when they won it for the first time under Ferguson, we will not believe it until it happens. In the meantime, all teams have luck, comebacks, late goals, good decisions, bad decisions, injuries, good days and bad days. Even Manchester United.

Some Of The Printable Mails About Maguire
Austin Maguire - Liverpool's win puts them three points clear of the whole caboodle. Man U's draw put them one point behind Arsenal, two behind Chelsea and five behind Liverpool (on the assumption that Man U do win their game in hand). Hull are sat proudly in the midst of all this.
Please, please don't be bringing your 'only Chelsea or Man U can win the league' diatribe to the table. It's still October; the big 4 will be separated by just five points if Man U win the game in hand. Can't we just enjoy the fact that things look fairly open and interesting this year?
Graeme, Gooner (not even a Liverpool fan taking the bait), Jersey
...Austin Maguire - As a Liverpool fan, I am flattered and grateful for your thanks on the altruistic gesture my team extended towards Man U at the weekend. I shamefully admit, however, that my own first instinct was that thay acted in a decidedly self-interested manner by selfishly claiming yet another three points from a fellow 'big 4' team. I really hadn't developed the cognitive faculty to see it for what it really was until you enlightened me on the matter. I deluded myself that beating Man U then Chelsea was Liverpool's way of furthering their own interests. I can now bask in the magnanimity of my team and their sincere desire to deliver the Premier League trophy to the Old Trafford trophy room.
I believe I speak for all Reds fans when I say that I look forward to January 31st at Anfield and March 14th at Old Trafford when, by beating Chelsea and Man Utd again, we can do United another solid.
Plank!
Steve Pattrick
...Sorry for biting, but I just can't resist pointing out the utter idiocy of Austin Maguire's email. If the team that finishes above Chelsea will win the league, and we've just beaten Chelsea at their place (who United drew with, oh yeah same as Everton) - who is more likely to win the league? The moronic missive smacks of a desperate attempt to wind Liverpool fans up, in order to flood the mailbox with their outraged responses rather than focus on the truth of United's deficiencies. If I may, I'll express my disbelief that anybody who can operate a computer can also have the wit and insight of Baldrick after a lobotomy, but also point out the facts that will ultimately prove the total cretin wrong.
Sir Red Nose was rightly giving it the johnny big spuds about his 'best squad ever' last year, but since then United have lost Queiroz so now have merely a tactically inept old man at the helm, Ronaldo is clearly not interested in anything, not even scoring, Berbatov is another sulk who thinks he's above the club and proves it by not celebrating the few goals he might score if he can keep his mind off his alice band for long enough, Rooney has gone back to being more interested in starting on forty thousand people rather than playing well, and - this is my favourite nail in the coffin of Austin's argument by the way - Darren Fletcher is currently United's best player! Ha ha! Does that sound like a title-winning team?! Oh, and quickly, Tevez who? Has he actually played for United this season? I hadn't noticed.
I'm not saying Liverpool will win the title, but it is telling that United fans everywhere are burying their heads in the sand to avoid the reality of us being handily placed at the moment. It is as if the innate arrogance of United fans prevents them from acknowledging any flaws of their own whatsoever, even when their team is currently the sixth best in the country. Can the employment of diversionary tactics such as Austin's frankly insane email be motivated by the fact that, at present, Hull have a better chance of winning the title than United? Just a thought.
Morgan (anger has never been so quickly replaced with mirth) Goford
...Actually Austin I think you will find all Liverpool's win did was allow Hull to go joint second and leave you lot still floundering behind them and leave you in a position where you cannot even catch them with your game in hand. Unfortunately Man U have played pretty poorly in the majority of their games this year and even more strangely playing pretty poor football. I believe Man U will probably be there or thereabouts, probably more than I believe Liverpool will be but this season you boys are not as good as Chelsea. I think singing Berbatov and more or less leaving Tevez out will turn out to be a bad decision. It's grand though, you will probably be carried by Ronaldo again this season and people call Liverpool a one-man team.

Loving The Luck
Like my extravagant and disgustingly rich currency trader uncle who even made money when the currencies worldwide tanked said....
All you need is luck my boy.
Amen to that.

PS. When you're on a roll, you're on a roll
...When did scoring more goals than the opposition become winning by luck exactly? Also the slice of luck that won liverpool the game on sunday was the same slice of luck that has won Chelsea numerous games and made Frank Lampard one of the country's top midfielders (apparently).

Just Enjoying The Ride...
You would think that after 15 years of success that the Mancs would be able to lose the inferiority complex and huge chip they have regarding Liverpool. Luck - blah blah, 18 years - yeah whatever (try 23!). Frankly we are just gonna enjoy it for now and hope we can hang in there, but judging by the reactions there are some seriously worried people - can't wait to see them frothing at the mouth if we are still top in April.

Still Doubting The Reds...
Pete Gill's 'Premier League Winners And Losers' w**kfest on Liverpool's scraped win against Chelsea nearly robbed me of my breakfast.
Newsflash Pete, Liverpool are very far from being the complete article, and are always subject to the brain farts Rafa seems to have every six/seven weeks. He should be more concerned about Hull City than with the Pensioners.
In the meantime, try to cut down on the vitamin E...
Jim (Limerick)
...Just wanted to point out to Gary (The Realist) from Dublin...Liverpool didn't score more goals than anyone last season...ManYoo did with 80 goals compared to Pools lowly 67 - so you're not that realistic...yes you beat ten-man Manyoo and beat Chelski... but other results have been scraped, Wigan, City, Stoke (oh yeah you didnt beat stoke) Pool will come unstuck and the team to beat are still Chelski. Long way to go...
Neill (looking forward to Manyoo turning up this season) Cobain, Belfast
...Gary (The Realistic LFC FAN) Dublin needs to do his research. Liverpool scored 67 goals last season, meaning they scored fewer than United (80), Arsenal (74) and Villa (71). To put things in perspective, Liverpool scored once more than the team currently bottom of the league.
Ed Palmer
...I've been reading the mailbox with interest today and yesterday and am frankly becoming bored with all the hype that's flowing from the fingers of Liverpool fans following their win at Chelski. Okay, so they won at the Bridge which is no mean feat and well done to them for doing so. But to suggest that that means the title will follow is surely premature. What they really want to wait for is criticism of their club from old Sir Red Nose. If they are really on the money this will be the real proof that their fortunes have changed and that Liverpool are genuine title contenders. Until then they can win all the matches they want and it won't matter a damn!

A Curious Rant About Irish Villa Fans
Before I continue, I'd like to point out for the record that I'm an Arsenal fan. But I've noticed something very odd on this website. Why do so many Irish-based Villa fans care more about the misfortune of Liverpool Football Club than the fortune of their own? Some of them strike me as quite arrogant, bitter and stubborn people. The kind of person who would proclaim aloud that 'No! I shall NOT follow the herd and support one of the Top 4 teams! That's what they'd be EXPECTING me to do...! Look at ME - I'm different!'
Such pretense seldom prospers, kids. I also imagine that you get rather perturbed by the amount of supporters from the Top Four clubs who say to you, 'Villa? Good team - I've got nothing against Villa...'
This is not a Villa-bashing email. What a shame - if it WAS, you might have something to be proud of.

Diaby Or Diarra For Gunners Midfield
A while ago, I did voice my opinion about the lack of midfield defensive cover which is becoming a more apparent issue as the season progresses. Yes, we are winning games right now and that is great but we are been shown up at the back. Toure and Gallas are a half-decent partnership, although I have my reservations about Gallas - look at the goals he was at fault for against Hull and Fulham. Since Flamini left has not been one person to cover the space between defence and midfield and I think as a result of that Fabregas has not been able to attack as much as he did last season and this season, he looks out of sorts.
Diaby has shown already that he is an accomplished player and can do well but maybe it is time for Wenger to do one of his conversion jobs ala Toure from Winger/Striker to centre-half and push Diaby back to defensive midfielder - he looks like he could be another Vieira. The other solution would be to seriously look at Lassana Diarra again. Alright he is a young guy and he was not getting a huge amount of opportunities last year but who would have with Flamini playing the way he was. He might have panicked with the Euros coming up and his place in the France time was at risk and levered himself a move. Let's be honest, the guy is a serious player. Arsenal would have to be the most attractive offer to this guy if it was made - Champions League football, in the shake up for the League plus the other cup competitions - versus either staying at Portsmouth or moving to Tottenham. It is a gap that need plugging and I think he is the man to do that for us.
On another note, lets hope the Spuds revival does not include an out of the skin performance on Wednesday night against the Gunners!

Two Mailboxes?
Just an idea, but how about having a split mailbox? One for just the Premier League and another one for the lower leagues?
This will then encourage other lower-league fans like Nick Bingham to voice their opinion without the fear of being ridiculed by the Premier League poets.
Obviously If you do decide to do this I wouldn't be claiming any royalties from you for the idea, just maybe print a few of my entries from time to time, I'm beginning to think you guys hate me.

Like This Fella...
As a Championship side fan, here is my review of my team this season. We're s**t. We're nearly bust. Thanks for reminding me. If I wanted to talk about the Championship I certainly wouldn't come to this site as I come here to drag myself away from the near sodomy that is watching/supporting my football team.
Nice thought though.
