Remember when Paul Konchesky and Christian Poulsen played for Liverpool? Remember when Dimitar Berbatov actually started games for Manchester United? Remember when Fernando Torres was so dangerous that he was worth fouling to give away penalties and free-kicks? It may be less than 18 months ago but an awful lot has changed since the last Premier League meeting of the pair at Old Trafford. In truth, Liverpool were awful and the scoreline was only so tight because first Jonny Evans and then John O'Shea gave Steven Gerrard chances from 12 and then 20 yards with fouls on Torres. The day truly belonged to Berbatov, who was finally - for 90 minutes at least - appreciated by United fans.

United: Van der Sar; O'Shea, Vidic, Evans, Evra; Nani (Anderson), Scholes, Fletcher, Giggs (Macheda); Rooney, Berbatov (Gibson).

Manchester United 2 Liverpool 1 (March 21, 2010)
In a week when we're bemoaning the fact that managers have made the media into the enemy rather than turning on each other, it's cheering to watch the footage of Sir Alex Ferguson and Rafa Benitez nose to nose by the side of an actual football pitch. The controversy centred around a penalty given to United by referee Howard Webb when Javier Mascherano clashed with the dangerous Antonio Valencia at the edge of the box. An infuriated Torres kicked out at the penalty spot and Wayne Rooney scored at the second attempted after Jose Reina saved his spot-kick. Either side of this incident, Torres had given Liverpool the lead and then Ji-Sung Park scored the winner but we think you can guess what image was on the back of the next day's newspapers...

Manchester United 1 Liverpool 4 (March 14, 2009)
"I thought we were the better team. But the score doesn't reflect that," said Sir Alex Ferguson while the world laughed. In reality, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres had torn Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand new behinds as Liverpool went to Old Trafford just days after beating Real Madrid and destroyed a very poor United side. This is the game famous for Vidic being beaten by a bounce, Gerrard kissing the camera and a very rare goal from Andrea Dossena that led to Liverpool fans adopting United's 'Rafa's cracking up' song. Right there, right then, it looked like Liverpool might overhaul United to win the title. Unfortunately for Liverpool, United enjoyed the last laugh.

Manchester United 3 Liverpool 0 (March 23, 2008)
Or, 'the one where Javier Mascherano simply didn't know when to shut up and talked himself into a red card'. In truth, Liverpool were already struggling when the Argentine midfielder got himself needlessly sent off, with only some heroics from Pepe Reina (the heroics would be soon forgotten with his flappery for United's second) keeping Liverpool in the game either side of Wes Brown's opener. Nani added the third goal as United pulled five points clear on a day when Chelsea beat Arsenal and Benitez raged at another referee.

Manchester United 2 Liverpool 0 (October 26, 2006)
Bloody hell, remember Mark Gonzalez - all pace and pretty much zero skill who lasted one whole season at Liverpool before being sold to Real Betis. He's now at CSKA Moscow but might well still recall the cross he put plum onto Dirk Kuyt's head that the Dutchman headed straight at the Manchester United keeper in this game at Old Trafford. Minutes later Paul Scholes marked his 500th United appearance with a goal before Rio Ferdinand added another. Members of the United starting XI still at the club: Eight. Members of the Liverpool starting XI still at the club: Four. Draw your own conclusions.

here has only been 3 players who made me hold my breath in dread when they picked the ball up anywhere near our penalty area...in their prime Scholes and Giggs... and always Drogba. Awesome player who on his day was the best striker in the world in my opinion.

remember him scoring a 25-yarder, either the season just gone or the one before, against Bolton at the Reebok. I've never seen a ball hit that hard before in my entire life. You could almost feel the shockwave from his foot contacting it 40 yards away in the stands. Didier Droga. You might not have loved him, but you just had to be in awe of him.
