Burnley boss Eddie Howe will look to extend Sam Vokes' stay at Turf Moor after a double injury blow took the gloss off his side's impressive 2-0 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday.
Martin Paterson, only recently back from four months on the sidelines with a thigh problem, is facing a further six weeks out due to a hamstring strain - a similar prognosis to that faced by winger Junior Stanislas after he hobbled off during the second half at the Riverside Stadium.
However, it is the injury to Paterson that makes a return for Wales international striker Vokes most appealing, with his initial two-month loan from Wolves having expired on Sunday.
"Sam will go back to Wolves, but we will be making a call to see how the land lies," Howe told the Lancashire Telegraph. "Obviously losing Martin, we may well reassess that, but we're in Wolves' hands.
"They (the injuries) are a massive downside for us. It could force our hand to look into the transfer market.
"Martin looks like a hamstring strain and these things are usually six weeks, although from our point of view, and from Martin's, it is positive as it's not his thigh. I am really disappointed for Junior too. He's been getting better and better and we can see in training all the time how he is progressing."
