Michael McGovern: Hopes to shock Celtic

Falkirk goalkeeper Michael McGovern has first-hand knowledge of a shock cup win over Celtic but will keep it to himself ahead of Sunday's Scottish Communities League Cup semi-final against his former club at Hampden.

McGovern, 27, was in the Ross County goal when the First Division club beat the Hoops in the Scottish Cup semi-final at the national stadium in 2010, before losing to Dundee United in the final.

Ahead of his return to Mount Florida with the First Division Bairns, who have already knocked Rangers and Dundee United out of the competition, the 27-year-old insists he has not been discussing County's most famous day with his team-mates but is hoping that lightning can strike twice.

"I am quite quiet, I don't go on about things like that," he said.

"But it was a very special moment for myself. I will always remember that but it is a different set of circumstances now.

"I am at a different club and also the Celtic team is completely different, probably a much better team and they are on a fantastic run.

"So we are under no illusions as to how hard the game is going to be but we are not going for a day out, we are really looking forward to it and we will give it our best shot.

"Celtic are expected to win on Sunday. There is no pressure on us at all.

"They are expected to win leagues and cups every year, we're not and that will suit us.

"We can go out there and enjoy the game, try to put on a performance and try to win the game.

"I have been very lucky over the last couple of years to have some good cup runs with teams I have been at and hopefully that can continue."

McGovern is one of the more experienced players in Steven Pressley's youthful Falkirk squad.

The Northern Ireland cap is hoping the boost from previous wins over Clydesdale Bank Premier League opposition will stand the young Bairns side in good stead.

"The boys went through against Rangers and Dundee United and I'm sure they will take that into the game on Sunday," said McGovern, who was an unused substitute for Celtic in their 2007 Scottish Cup final win over Dunfermline at Hampden.

"It is something that can definitely give us confidence although this is going to be a harder game than either of those two.

"But it is a good opportunity to play at the national stadium. When you are younger you dream of playing at Hampden against big team like Celtic so what a fantastic opportunity for us and one we will definitely relish.

"So I am looking forward to Sunday."

here has only been 3 players who made me hold my breath in dread when they picked the ball up anywhere near our penalty area...in their prime Scholes and Giggs... and always Drogba. Awesome player who on his day was the best striker in the world in my opinion.

I

remember him scoring a 25-yarder, either the season just gone or the one before, against Bolton at the Reebok. I've never seen a ball hit that hard before in my entire life. You could almost feel the shockwave from his foot contacting it 40 yards away in the stands. Didier Droga. You might not have loved him, but you just had to be in awe of him.

den Hazard, def. - 1) that girl in a club who makes eyes at you all night, who allows you to buy her a drink and walk her home arm in arm, who then gives you a suggestive kiss on her doorstep before declaring how tired she is and how she has to be up early the next day. 2) A cock tease.
