Fenlon not shaken by shocker

Hibernian manager Pat Fenlon has challenged his players to build on the improvement they showed before Sunday's 5-0 thrashing by Celtic.

Fenlon: Hoping to get back on track

Fenlon: Hoping to get back on track

Hibs kept consecutive clean sheets against Kilmarnock and Aberdeen before being torn apart by Neil Lennon's side at Easter Road.

They have a quick opportunity to bounce back when they face Motherwell on Wednesday night looking to stay ahead of Clydesdale Bank Premier League bottom club Dunfermline, who take on Celtic at the same time.

Fenlon told Hibernian TV: "We gave away soft goals and didn't defend properly and came up against a team that are on fire.

"There is no point dwelling on that. We are 49 points behind Celtic and we have to address that in the long term.

"In the short term we have to focus on the next game and getting ourselves out the position we are in.

"We did all right in previous weeks and we need to concentrate on getting back to that level of determination and organisation."

Goalkeeper Graham Stack was among the players who were below par against Celtic but Fenlon will not make sweeping alterations.

"There won't be wholesale changes," the Irishman said. "We will make one or two changes.

"We have three games in seven days and we need to utilise the squad. We brought a lot of players in so if we make two or three changes now it doesn't affect the quality."

The game is a replay of Fenlon's first match in charge of Hibs, which was abandoned at half-time in November because of a floodlight fire with the visitors 1-0 ahead.

Garry O'Connor scored the only goal and Hibs put in a hard-working and very organised display that restricted the third-placed side.

"It was a good start," Fenlon said. "Garry got a great goal and all of a sudden we got to half-time and there was a major problem. It seems like a long time ago.

"We have got to go there and be professional and be as good as then."

Motherwell are fresh from an emphatic 3-0 win over Hearts, achieved despite a red card for Keith Lasley early in the second half, and Fenlon was impressed with the home side as he watched from the stand.

"They're a good side in good form and their confidence is high," the former Bohemians manager said.

"We know we have to play well to get something. I thought they were very good against Hearts, not just when they had the ball.

"When they didn't have the ball they worked hard, were determined and showed a good shape to get the ball back."

ou realise this means he'll have more free time to tweet, appear on newsnight, and google philosphers... ban seems about right, but there will never be consistency from the FA, so that completely undermines any possible lesson to the kids. Apart from the lesson about being part of an important cash cow.

here has only been 3 players who made me hold my breath in dread when they picked the ball up anywhere near our penalty area...in their prime Scholes and Giggs... and always Drogba. Awesome player who on his day was the best striker in the world in my opinion.
