McCall: Focused on Hibs clash

Motherwell will move three points behind Rangers if they beat Hibs on Wednesday night at Fir Park, in a match previously abandoned because of a floodlight fire, after three consecutive home wins in the Scottish Premier League.

Not only has Rangers' descent into administration moved Motherwell 10 points closer to second place, it has also raised the prospect of third place in the SPL sealing a Champions League qualification spot should the Ibrox finances not improve sufficiently by March 31, the deadline for European club licences.

But McCall is confident his players will not be distracted by speculation about an unlikely foray into football's premier club competition.

"They know we focus, as we have done since I've been here, on the next game," said McCall, who is without the suspended Keith Lasley.

"We mentioned last week if we could win the next two home games we would be 12 points clear of Hearts. Obviously St Johnstone are still battling for third too.

"We would be delighted if we could go 12 points clear and then obviously people would look and say we are only three points behind Rangers.

"We just aim to get as many points as we can. The lads have done terrifically well, we have got more points than we did last season."

McCall is also sure there will be no complacency from his players after hitting 15 goals in four home games, as they host a Hibs side who shipped five against Celtic on Sunday.

But he warned: "Hibs have come here twice and played well on both occasions. They knocked us out the cup, although I thought we did enough to win, it was a terrific game of football.

"Then they were 1-0 up, and deservedly so, when the game got abandoned.

"On Sunday they made a couple of individual errors and they were up against a very strong Celtic side.

"As always, we look to ourselves. We're on a confident run of form, have a lot of people playing at the top of their game and scoring goals.

"It's all down to hard work and the desire and determination of the lads allied to some good football."

ou realise this means he'll have more free time to tweet, appear on newsnight, and google philosphers... ban seems about right, but there will never be consistency from the FA, so that completely undermines any possible lesson to the kids. Apart from the lesson about being part of an important cash cow.

here has only been 3 players who made me hold my breath in dread when they picked the ball up anywhere near our penalty area...in their prime Scholes and Giggs... and always Drogba. Awesome player who on his day was the best striker in the world in my opinion.
