NO QUICK RESOLUTION TO SVEN SAGA

Speculation over the future of manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is set to continue with Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra in no hurry to complete a post-season review.

Eriksson has remained tight-lipped while on the club's post-season tour of Asia, with former Thai prime minister Thaksin reportedly dissatisfied with the form shown in the second half of the season, which culminated in an 8-1 loss to Middlesbrough on Sunday and a ninth-placed finish in the Premier League.

The former England manager's position is said to be precarious and he is set to meet Thaksin in Bangkok as part of the review before travelling to Hong Kong for the second leg of the tour.

Director of communications Paul Tyrrell forecast the review - which he stressed incorporates every aspect of the club - may not be complete until after City return to England next Friday.

"I'd envisage that the review would take another week at least," said Tyrrell.

"We are due back in England on Friday, May 23 so I'd imagine we'll be coming towards the end of our review around that time, maybe a little bit later than that."

Tyrrell confirmed Eriksson will meet Thaksin in Thailand.

"There is a meeting planned between the chairman and the manager," he added. "That meeting will be part of that review."

City staged a carefully-choreographed press conference at a Bangkok shopping mall to announce their arrival for the first leg of their promotional tour.

Media were denied the opportunity to ask questions to Eriksson or any of the three players in attendance, Dietmar Hamman, Kasper Schmeichel and Ben Mee, the captain of the FA Youth Cup-winning team.

Tyrrell, who planned proceedings, indicated it was Eriksson's choice not to field questions.

"With regards to the manager's position, we are making no official comment," he added.

"The manager asked during this time of great forensic analysis of the football club for the players not to be doing interviews and not to be answering questions from the media.

"It's not something we specifically put into place for this event, it has been happening for a number of weeks.

"The manager wants to make no comment. He's here for the football game on Saturday."

Eriksson posed for photos with Thaksin's son and daughter, Khun Panthongthae and Khun Pinthongta, who are directors of City, after making a short speech to thank the public and sponsors for welcoming the club to Thailand.

City meet Thailand Premier All-Stars in Bangkok on Saturday in their first of two matches on the tour.

A squad of 18 have made the trip, including five of the youth side that defeated Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup final.

Club captain Richard Dunne, Joe Hart, Vedran Corluka, Micah Richards, Stephen Ireland, Elano and Nery Castillo are among those who have not travelled due to international call-ups and injuries.

Three Thai players signed soon after Thaksin's takeover at Eastlands last summer will also be joining the squad.

Teerasilp Daengda, Suree Sukha and Kiatprawut Saivaew signed last November from Thai side Chonburi FC but are yet to feature for the club after being refused work permits.

Terrasilip and Suree were loaned to Grasshoppers Zurich but did not make a first-team appearance in Switzerland, while Kiatprawut went on loan to Club Brugge.

Their presence is set to heighten interest among the local fans.

Following Saturday's match in Bangkok, City will travel to the nearby resort of Pattaya before moving on to Hong Kong next Tuesday for the second leg of their trip.
