Tottenham's plans for the summer have been left in limbo by the continued uncertainty over the future of Dimitar Berbatov.
Although the Bulgarian is understood to want to leave White Hart Lane in pursuit of Champions League football, the striker has yet to confirm his intentions either publicly or to his current employers. Spurs are reported to have given Berbatov until the start of next month to reveal his plans, with their own transfer strategy on hold until his decision is made.
Having already spent around £15m on Croatain playmaker Luka Modric, the sale of Berbatov would provide manager Juande Ramos with the necessary funds for another foray into the summer market. "Hand on heart, I don't know what is going to happen with Berba," Ramos' assistant, Gus Poyet, admitted to The Guardian. "People have to understand that we want Berba at the club and, if he stays, it will be phenomenal. But if he goes, we will need a replacement. We will have to wait."
As well as striving to complete the signing of Crystal Palace teenager John Bostock, Tottenham are already considering their options for replacing Berbatov. Brazilian club Cruzeiro claim they expect Tottenham to make a bid upwards of £6m for Bolivia striker Marcelo Moreno, although that deal could become embroiled in red tape after it emerged that the club only partially own the player, with his 'playing rights' held by a third party. Meanwhile, according to fresh reports from Spain, chairman Daniel Levy will fly out to Barcelona on Sunday in a bid to persuade the unsettled Samuel Eto'o to move to North London.

"SPURS TOP 4, STOP DREAMING. BERBA IS A GOOD PLAYER 35 MILLION, NO CHANCE. WELL I SUPPOSE IN SPURS TERMS HE IS, 16 MILLION FOR BENT. YOU ARE ALL CRACKERS. "

"MISTERGRIMSHAW pay some respect to Leverkusen, they've given us so many great players. As a Spurs and Berba fan i can clearly see that if we need to break the top 4 we need this guy. He can beat any defender without even making an effort!! He's one man who doesnt bottle into pressure or lose his cool on a big occasion. He can provide those moments of brilliance that win you big games. He's a big match player and we need someone like him to do something special when we're trailing in a cup final. I only hope Ramos can somehow keep him and get a few new players who can turn things around for us. Top 4 next year!!"

"You're all mad if you think anyone would pay £35m for Berbatov. He's a good player but seriously he's not in the £35m bracket."

"Agree whole-heartedly with mistergrimshaw. Seeing as Berbatov played a massive part in the demise of BMJ I think it's only right that he gives the Perfect One a full season. If we break into the top four then brilliant, if not then he will still only be 28 - hardly past it,and can see alternative employment at a champions league team. "

"I wish Berbatov will just hurry up and leave the club! with a bid in access of £35 million we can bring in a player who will score20 goals- I know its his way of playing but his lazy style I think has an impact on the rest of the team, when a star player looks like he cant be bovvard. Ramos wants a very attacking style of play with the lime of Eto will replace that. GO BERBA go get your Champions Leuge footy"

"As much as I admire Berba when he is on form (a truly unplayable footballer on his day!) I'm sure I'm not the only Spurs fan who is getting fed up with this dragging on (its been going on since the end of his first season now!). Personally I feel that Berbatov owes us a little loyalty as I feel he would not be on the radar quite as much if he was still at his mediocre German team, ok he's only at a mediocre English team but there is no doubt as to which is the more widely regarded and watched league. He should give Ramos one full season to show him what he can do with his new team and then if he's not happy with our progress I don't think any Spurs fan would begrudge him leaving at all. "
