Poor Portsmouth were well beaten on their return to Portugal in the UEFA Cup as goals by Luis Aguiar, Wason Renteria and Alan secured a convincing win for Sporting Braga.
With AC Milan next up for Portsmouth in the group stages, this was not the way Harry Redknapp wanted his team to start their Group E campaign.
Portsmouth went behind when Aguiar hit a stunning 30-yard strike in the eighth minute, and Jermain Defoe missed the only clear chance for the Premier League side. Glen Little and Armand Traore limped off injured to add to the visitors' woes.
Redknapp pointed the finger at Braga's 'divers'.
Pompey had four players booked and Redknapp admitted he was frustrated by the night's proceedings - especially with the antics of the opposition and the officials.
He said: "I got frustrated with the whole game to be honest.
"Right from the start I thought the referee had no idea whatsoever.
"It's frightening, they were diving all over the place and nearly every decision seemed to be a booking."
Slovenian referee Darko Ceferin booked Pompey's Papa Bouba Diop, Noe Pamarot, Jermain Defoe - for shooting into the net when given offside - and Peter Crouch.
He also booked Braga goalscorer Wason Renteria for trying to persuade the official to caution Pompey substitute Nadir Belhadj for a foul.
But Braga coach Jorge Jesus said: "Our players only went down because of the Portsmouth players' fouls. We thought the referee did a good job."
