Irrespective of whether veteran striker Dean Windass is finally credited with the equaliser which earned his home-town club another famous point in a 2-2 draw at Portsmouth, assistant manager Brian Horton is convinced Hull's Barclays Premier League fairytale will go on and on.
Just one point from the previous 12 might have suggested the Tigers had finally been found out by the top flight after earlier wins at Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle.
But they maintained their splendid away form - 14 of their 22 points have now come on the road - when substitute Windass, 39, muscled his way in to force home a corner off Pompey's Noe Pamarot four minutes from the end at Fratton Park.
And Horton was happy to give the old stager the credit after Hull had already bounced back from Peter Crouch's 21st-minute header with Michael Turner's reply - the full-back's third goal the season - early in the second half and kept going despite Glen Johnson's wonderful strike for the home side nine minutes later.
It is likely a Premier League 'dubious goals' panel will eventually rule that it was not a goal by Windass, who has been frustrated by a lack of first-team opportunities this season, although Horton said: "I think he deserves it, and I've told him he should stay here.
"There's been talk he wants to go out on loan somewhere but if I was 39 I wouldn't want to go to a Championship club - even if I was 19th man at Hull.
"He trains well and there are plenty who would want him, but I know he just wants to play - and he plays with a smile on his face. He's given the governor (manager Phil Brown) here a selection problem now."
It would take a major meltdown for Hull to go straight back down to the second tier.
But Horton insisted: "If you are not thinking about Europe, then what is the aim?
"We just want to get as many points as quickly as we can. People say it could be 40 points, maybe 42 (to stay up), and already we have 22 which is excellent.
"No targets have been set and Europe hasn't even been mentioned. That's a crazy thought at this particular time, but the lads are enjoying themselves and the spirit and endeavour is a credit to them.
"It is what got us promoted last season and it is what is responsible for our record, particularly away from home, now."
